Nationwide search for the next top fitness model attracts huge interest in first year as well as securing impressive prize package for contestants
For thousands of millennials and fitness enthusiasts, avid followers of social media stars like Michelle Lewin, Steve Cook, Lazar Angelov and Paige Hathaway, top of their list of aspirations is conquering the dream of becoming the next top fitness model.
Why not? The lifestyle of those at the top of their game involves being a global jetsetter visiting expos around the world, paid money to train and maintain an incredible physique. Magazine cover shoots, product endorsements, glitz, glamour and the chance to inspire millions of people as your global profile grows. Nutrition sponsors, supplement sponsors, clothing sponsors…fitness is an industry experiencing incredible levels of popularity.
This year, for the first time, BodyPower has launched BMS (BodyPower Model Search), giving aspirational contestants the chance to realise their fitness model dreams with unrivalled exposure in the biggest arena for fitness – BodyPower Expo. BodyPower Model Search is a nationwide competition to find future industry stars, and plenty have entered to try their luck.
Set to attract over 100,000 visitors in 2017 from 12th to 14th May at the NEC, Birmingham, BodyPower is without doubt one of the world’s biggest platforms to attract talent scouts and potential sponsors.
This opportunity has been recognised by entrants to the BodyPower Model Search with 17 regional castings for the competition held all over the UK attracting just shy of 500 hopefuls. Each was put through their paces by top industry professionals, current and former fitness competitors, photographers and media.
BodyPower Model Search Co-Ordinator Liz Foley commented: “Bearing in mind this is a launch competition we’ve been overwhelmed by the level of interest. Thousands of people have been in touch, 500 made it to the castings for advice, posing tips and assessment and now we’re excited for the finals held at BodyPower. It’s such a big stage for these potential stars and the quality is extremely high. I think spectators and the contestants themselves are in for a treat.”
Sponsored by fitness media giant, Men’s Fitness, BodyPower Model Search operates with a unique format compared to other competitions of a similar ilk. The winning contestants are judged only 50% on their physique and 50% on their overall marketability and stage presence.
Over 150 have made the grade from the regional castings, which will be cut to 50 for the final on Sunday 14th May when BodyPower announce a male and female winner. For most of these competitors this is their first time up on stage, bearing all in a swimwear and active wear round.
What are they competing for? Well, aside from the obvious opportunity to impress potential sponsors and talent scouts, the winners will also receive an all-expenses paid trip to an international BodyPower event where they compete on a global stage; a 12-month sponsorship with BodyPower Model Search sponsor, Liquid Sunrayz; a free photoshoot with industry renowned photographer Alex Wightman and a feature in Men’s Fitness.
Over the coming weeks BodyPower is set to announce the judging line-up for the finals, set to include a mixture of TV stars, models, industry professionals and photographers. The details have been kept top secret as interest in the competition continues to build.
